tiny newsletter #168: rome rome rome rome
hi friends!
friend of the newsletter (fotn) madeline warshaw and i are in tuscany rn and last wk we were in rome!
there’s endless guides to rome online and as you know, i typically go for over-scheduled trips bcuz i don't want to miss anything. but this was decidedly not that type of vacation.
instead, all we did was set a single goal for each day - something simple like “eat gelato". from 5 days of that, i bring you a tiny guide to rome:
🛏️ stay at this airbnb. if you don't mind stairs and you're a small crew, this 1br was like living in a painting. it's also in an excellent area of town - v easy to get around from here on foot.
🍨 eat gelato at giolitti. open since 1900 (!) and in the most beautiful marble space, this was our fav gelato spot. you pay first, then get in line to order. i rec fior di latte + strawberry gelato cake.
🌴 walk around villa borghese. this beautiful park is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. there's a museum here, but we watched dogs play and rowboats going by like locals instead.
🎨 buy art supplies at bordi. it's run by a v sweet team and crammed floor to ceiling w treasures like homemade pastels and gorgeous wooden boxes for oil paints.
🍴eat pasta, fried artichokes, and tiramisu at da enzo al 29. i'm skeptical in a diff country when the menu has english on it, but this was our fav din. no res, just go - we went twice!
🍝 book this cooking class. leave the city for half a day to learn how to make pasta with nonnas and their english-translating granddaughters. incredibly special, beyond our high hopes.
💌 and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
