tiny newsletter #216: 3 art shows, go!

hello hellooooo,

my mom came to town this past wknd and we tore it up! well, kind of. she fractured her metatarsal right before. but we still did a lot, here's 3 fab art shows i rec from it:

1. domenico gnoli at lévy gorvy dayan. my fav show i've seen in yrs, gnoli was an italian painter who mixed acrylic paints w sand to make textured, precise pieces. he focused on everyday items – a tiea collar, a bed. i could've looked at them all day, can't believe he only lived til 36.

2. matisse at acquavella galleries. of c he's so famous but this is a great display. it's 2 floors of works and some busts w real personality, all of which are on loan from owners worldwide. i love to see faces w character in bronze. ppl rly lined up for this so go on a weekday if you can.

3. carol bove at the guggenheim. a sculptor in red hook (new dream: visit her studio), bove uses urethane paint and industrial machines to manipulate steel into looking soft and pliable. it's her first museum show, brava! i was most drawn to her tallest pieces on the 1st ring.

💌 and that’s tiny! ty for reading, xo aud
