hello to the world of tiny!

honored to be invited for a guest spot on the internet's most charming newsletter. i'm madeline, audrey's friend from college, and i live in minneapolis, where I'm working on opening a home goods shop this fall! 

audrey and I went to tuscany together this spring and i miss it! the dolce vita won me over, what can i say. summer *should* be about luscious evenings in the glow of friends and lovers and the waning sun. too often, it's just sweaty. 

here's what i do when i want to pretend home is an italian villa:

a cocktail: audrey and i both fell in love at first sip at cocktail hour with a drink neither of us had ever had before...the amaretto sour. it's so easy to make, you just need amaretto, lemon, egg white, ice, and a pretty shaker (skip the cherries unless that's your bag).

a vibe: no overheads allowed!! turn the lights down loooooow. i just got these vintage swedish plug-in sconces from etsy, and they've changed me life already. renter friendly! warm glow up the wazoo! they cast little sun rays when they're turned on! if you're not ready to enter your sconce era quite yet, taper candles will fit the bill just fine.

a playlist: “vintage italian summer" on spotify makes washing dishes 10,000x more enjoyable. i saw casablanca recently at a movie theater for the first time and it made me want to listen to more old hollywood-esque music. this one makes home feel positively villa-like!

bonus: if the materialists didn't scratch the rom com itch for you this summer (me neither), may i suggest 3 excellent recent alternatives? two of them are tv shows so you can stretch them out through august... the buccaneers (period piece, love triangle, incredible needle drops), starstruck (british, i fell in love with a celeb..oops, equal parts rom and com), my old ass (queer coming of age, summer before college, aubrey plaza).
